... I told this to a group of managers I was in a meeting with as we were talking about compensation expectations of the employees and the need for them to talk about it to show how worthy they are. Have the bragging rights!
Today's topic is very random. It's going to be a mix of thoughts. I'm in the mood to indulge my unstructured and abstract dialogues within my mind. Bare with me.
We keeping hearing how the world should get to know you and for you to put yourself on the corporate map and network and be seen.
Well, fair enough. There is an innate need for us to be famous. For people to know us. And we believe that we will gain tremendously because of how famous we are.
Defining the quality of our life. By being known.
I don't intend to get into the validity of this belief but I will tell you why with each passing year I have started feeling what I just mentioned to this group. "I rather be rich and anonymous.." I would ask you to focus on the anonymous part for now.
There is a certain freedom in being lesser known or anonymous and keep doing what you would want to do.
With being famous, we tend to live up to an impression that the other person or the world has of us. Slowly, turning our life into a set of instructions. Basically, a prescription.
The world will try hard to make you like them. As long as you give into the need to have an identity of your own, you will always fall prey to being someone you're desperately trying to be that you may not be. Instead, choose the freedom to be. Just be. Whatever, at that moment you want to be.
I would rather not be known for anything to the external but have the freedom to be the one I'm internal.
The introvert in me chooses this freedom over fame, more often these days.
“The man in me will hide sometimes to keep from bein’ seen, but that’s just because he doesn’t want to turn into some machine.”
- Bob Dylan
Trust Dylan to write such thought evoking stuff to help you keep faith in yourself, your purpose, your individuality, passion, and steering you away from being someone you are not!
