Hey You!

Last night, a friend messaged me out of the blue.

"Hey, are you around to talk? I’ve just been feeling... anxious."

That was it.. No backstory.. Just a quiet reach-out.. almost like tossing a coin into the ocean, hoping it fulfills the wishes..

So we spoke.. Nothing earth-shattering.. No mental health jargons. No push to look for solutions .. Just... talked. About work, personal stress, about how everything feels a bit sideways lately.. Somewhere in there they said, “I think anxiety’s just become my new normal.”

And honestly, I didn’t even flinch.. Because same.. Same..

It’s strange how common that sentence has become - in coffee catchups, late-night messages, even passing comments on social media.. We're all carrying this lowgrade static.. Not always loud, but always there.. buzzing!

We’ve become functional worriers.. High-performing, semi-panicked adults who can still send emails, attend birthday dinners, and answer “How are you?” with “All good!” even when it’s not..

But here’s the thing: that one message? It helped.. For both of us.. Just knowing someone’s on the other side, listening without fixing, nodding without judging - it’s strangely calming.. not long term but when required..

We don’t always need advice.. Sometimes we just need to not be alone with the noise in our heads..

So, if someone’s face has flashed into your mind while reading this - reach out. Say hey you.. Be that person..

Because connection won’t solve everything.. But it reminds us we’re still human..

And sometimes, that’s all it takes..
